6 Words That Drive Me Nuts!

Ain't Nobody Got Time For That!

Picture
This is funny in some situations, like this one...
But in all seriousness, saying "I don't have time for that!" can be a rude thing to say to someone.

In the book Teach Like A Pirate, Dave Burgess talks about the phrase "You are lucky, you are creative!" He goes on to explain why that makes me so angry.  It's actually a very funny part of the book, because I can totally relate!
🇮 🇩🇴🇳'🇹 🇭🇦🇻🇪 🇹🇮🇲🇪 🇫🇴🇷 🇹🇭🇦🇹! is the phrase that sets me off!  The other day I was super excited about an idea I found on Twitter and couldn't wait to share with another educator (less "connected" than I am). I thought the response would be, "That's awesome!" or "Thanks for sharing!" or even, "I might need to try that."  Something besides, "I don't have time for Twitter!"
It crushes me, makes me mad, and makes me sad all at the same time.
All I could think of is...
🇮 🇲🇦🇰🇪 🇹🇮🇲🇪 🇫🇴🇷 🇮🇹!

So, this post is just to say, the next time somebody shares about something they are passionate about, but it's not something you take the time to do,  try to phrase it in a way that isn't insulting where they choose to spends their time.  Just a thought!   In my case, I just told them they didn't know what they were missing. #blessyourheart

I'm off my "Soap Box" now... I'd love to hear your thoughts! ~Pam

Excuse me, I'm coming up on your empty soapbox for a second.

Oh, that gets me too! Hey, Everyone. News flash! We all get the same 24.

It's like they are poo-pooing you, "Oh, that's nice, Deary."

Now I'll step down off the soapbox.

Good point! Thanks for validating my soap box moment. ;) Love the term poo-pooing too, that made me laugh! The Taylor Swift meme "haters gonna hate" actually pops in my head during these conversations. LOL!

I have several other non-favorite 6 words as well as your classic, "ain't nobody got time for that." Among them are:
" Don't think that will work here."
"We tried that one other time."
"Who do you think you are?"
"Don't waste your time on that!"
"Where did you get that idea?"
"I'll be here after you're gone."

I love this!!!! I could not agree more. Time is the same for everyone. You decide what you want to prioritize and make time for. It is important to always be looking at what you are doing with your time...because that shows you what you value. When my kids were little I always thought... I will wait until I have more time one day. Now, I realize that I have the same amount of time.

Yes! That drives me crazy as well! Especially if it is often said by the person who has not done any PD outside of school in a RALLY long time! They really don't know what they are missing!

I couldn't agree with you more. As educators, we NEED to have time for that because students deserve OUR BEST, not an excuse.
