Kahoot!  is one of the coolest ways to take a "test"!
Is it a game or is it a test, you ask?
Well...it's both.

Kahoot! is a web-based student response system that is highly engaging and has many educational purposes.  Students can use a phone, computer or tablet to answer questions.   No app needed, just the web.

How do I start?

To create an account, you can go to https://getkahoot.com/
You'll need to enter your role, school name, username and a password.  You will use the same web address to log-in each time you want to start or create a game.  You'll only need to click the "sign in" button after registeristing the first time.

How do I create a game?

Once you are logged in, you'll see options of creating a quiz, survey or discussion.  Click on quiz, then name it what you'd like.  You may want to decide on a naming convention so students can find them easily on their own.  Once it's named, you add questions just like you would if you were writing your own test.  You can add an image or video, you can chose how long you'd like the students to have to answer the questions, and you must chose which answer is correct.  Save and continue until you are done adding all your questions.  It's very simple!  You may want to make a fun one to experiment with to start.

How do the students play the game?

Students go to https://kahoot.it
After you've started a game from your site, they will enter the code to join the game.  They will enter a Game Pin, then choose a nickname.  You can decide how you want them to name themselves so you can use the data from the quiz later. Maybe a student number, first initial and last name, etc.
As they join the game, you will see their names appear.  Once you see all of your students, you may start the game!

They played the game, now how do I access and use the data?

On your main page you will see games that have been played with a purple cloud next to it.  Click on this to download the results in an excel document.  This is where you can see how students answered questions.

Now what?  You have all the data you need to make small groups for extra support or small groups for challenge assignments/projects.  You can use this for grading purposes or just to inform your instruction.

Personalized Learning Ideas:
  • pre or post tests
  • formative assessments
  • exit tickets
  • students create their own to quiz each other and show mastery of learning targets.

The possiblities are endless!
